Or, what I did to while away the quarantine.
The world record for the bench press for guys my age (65) and size (215) is 363 pounds. That’s like benching my 21 year old twins the day after Thanksgiving.
On April 9 I’m shooting to bench 365.
Turns out, my 4 year journey to this point looks a lot like building and executing a solid marketing plan.
All the essentials for success are there. Experienced and insightful planning. Use of proven consultants. Discipline (avoid ego lifting). Rigid adherence to the plan. Testing. Mid course adjustments. More testing. Hit your milestones.. Shine and polish. Launch.
Whether a new product launch or an old product refresh, make a plan. Stick to the plan.
I never lifted heavy before age 60. Then after a taunt from a great friend (he sent me a video of him benching 315) it was time to launch a new product called “Jacked Jack.”.
In 4 years I went from benching 185 to, if all goes according to plan, 365. I hit milestones, tore and healed muscles, then smartly pulled in an expert consultant who changed the game for me. Similarly, the right consultant in data analysis, creative development, e-commerce cart or app dev, social media and PR , etc is essential and worth their weight in profit gold.
Without trainer extraordinaire Bob DeBolt I would not be in a position to take this record. The Jacked Jack launch would have been: epic fail. If you’re leading a product launch, epic fail is a career buster.
Consultant Bob “Bear” Debolt, former power lifting champion, guided me with a knowing, steady hand as I hit each milestone.
Bob showed me how a slavish devotion to form is 60% of the game, explosive strength 50%, and the right mental state 50%. (Never hire Bob for math related projects.)
With your product already costing a fortune in research and product development, legal protection, and time and opportunity blood money, you WANT a proven expert, or experts, on your launch team.
Nutrition is also a critical component to hitting this goal. I added a few experts to the team with valuable knowledge in food and supplements. My diet may not be for everyone (raw goats milk, raw eggs, yogurt, cheese, and lots of meat especially marrow and liver and a secret supp called Yolked) but it’s a powerful agent for building critical lean muscle.
This is me benching 340 last month. World record is only 5 sacks of sugar away. Every day, every meal, every rep, is precision planned to break that record. At this weight, every added pound feels like 10.
Hire the right experts. Make a smart plan. Stick to the plan.
Break a world record in the bench press. Launch a new product successfully.
Same thing.
Easy.
But get yourself a Bear.
(And don’t forget the CTA: wish me luck!)
